Wimborne vs Salisbury

Recap

Playing 50 minutes with 10 men, Salisbury ended Wimborne’s 12-match home unbeaten run to maintain their chase for promotion.

The Whites opened the scoring in the 6th minute. Receiving the ball from a short-free-kick wide on the left, Lewis Benson rifled the ball home from 20 yards.
Benson turned provider on the half-hour mark. From his free-kick skipper Kane O’Keefe needed two attempts before forcing the ball home to double the visitors’ lead.
Wimborne pulled one back five minutes before the interval. Toby Holmes chasing a high through ball, received a kick on the head from O’Keefe, before flicking the ball over keeper Jake Hallett and finding the empty net. Referee Kane deemed O’Keefe’s kick worthy of a yellow card, his second of the game.
Wimborne almost equalised on 62 minutes when Holmes headed substitute Curtis Young’s cross wide when well-placed, but four minutes later, Salisbury extended their lead. Jack Sparkes’ free-kick was well-saved by Gerard Benfield before Matthew Partridge reacted quickest to net the rebound.
Salisbury’s fourth came on 70 minutes when Benson created space for a cross from the left by-line for Daniel Fitchett to head home at the far post. Referee Kane evened up numbers in stoppage time by showing red to Franklyn Clarke for a rash challenge on Sparkes.
Wimborne: Benfield, Clarke, Maybury, Davidson, Oldring, Francis, Stokoe (Pettefer 46), Penny (Young 61), T.Holmes, Burbidge, L.Holmes  Unused subs: Collins, Owen
