We can confirm that first team players Matt Oldring and Lee Francis have left the club at the end of the 2018-19 season.
The following is a statement from Manager Matty Holmes.
‘Matty has decided not to resign for the new season, with university commitments in Leeds for his final year and football commitments too much. Matty has been a fantastic player for us and helped us secure a Play Off final place and secure safety in our first ever season in the Southern Premier.
He has been a great leader and always given us 100%, he will be a big miss around the place.
We wish him well for the future.
After a difficult conversation with Frano, it is with heavy heart that Lee will not be staying with us next season. Since his arrival from Barnstaple, he has become a popular figure and valued member of the squad.
He was an instrumental part of the team in our Play Off season, and in retaining our Southern Premier status this year. We wish Lee well for the future.’
Lee Francis made 34 appearances in all competitions this season and battled back from a nasty chest injury earlier in the season. Matty Oldring scored two important goals this year, the most memorable being the second in a 2-0 victory at Harrow Borough to put the Magpies in the driving seat for guaranteeing another season at this level.
Lee Francis – 78 appearances (52 starts, 26 subs), 5 goals
Wimborne Town Football Club would like to place on record our sincere thanks to both players for their commitment and efforts to the club over recent years.
