PREVIEW: Wimborne Town FC V Weymouth FC

Wimborne Town FC welcome local rivals and league leaders Weymouth FC to the Koolpak Stadium this Saturday in the last Dorset Derby of the season at the Cuthbury.

The two leading goalscorers Toby Holmes and Brandon Goodship go head to head, with only Cirencester’s Benjamin Whitehead in the league below, having more goals to his name in all four Evo-Stik divisions (30). This game is the reverse fixture of Weymouth’s 1-0 victory back in October, thanks to a late Harry Baker goal.

The Magpies who had lost five of their seven league fixtures before that trip to the Bob Lucas Stadium, will be looking to continue their remarkable home form this season, with the visit of Salisbury FC a fortnight ago, their only league defeat on home soil since September.

Prior to that disappointment against Salisbury, Wimborne had scored at least three goals in five of their last six home games.

Speaking recently to the Daily Echo, Matty Holmes said:

We came out of a good run with a couple of defeats but the boys are still upbeat. Now we need to somehow get over the line and pick up two or three wins to see us home but it is not a given. You can go quite a run of games without a win as we found earlier in the season.

We need to make sure, tactically, we get it right and everyone produces on the day, which we had done before the two defeats. The lads have been brilliant and we cannot let it slip now.

The Terras meanwhile, make the journey across having won their last five games, and have lost only once in their last nine on the road. Weymouth’s remaining fixtures include a tough trip to Poole Town, and difficult tests at home to Met Police and Farnborough in their pursuit of the league title.

Wimborne could climb five places to 8th with a win, Weymouth who do have a game in hand on the chasing pack, could fall to third should results go against them.
