Wimborne Town welcome Merthyr Town to the Koolpak stadium this Saturday afternoon, looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat last week in difficult conditions away to Frome Town.
After Dorchester’s 1-0 win at Poole on Tuesday Wimborne Town are just outside the relegation zone in 19th. The league table is very tight with only 5 points separating 9th placed Farnborough on 32 points, to our 27 points in 19th.
In contrast, Merthyr Town are in 6th place with 38 points, where a win would move them within 2pts of playoff placed Met Police – though could slip to 8th should results go against them.
Despite their league position, their recent away form is nothing to write home about, having lost to Swindon Supermarine and Harrow Borough either side of a 3-2 victory at Frome in recent weeks. Winning just twice on the road in their last seven outings.
The reverse fixture ended in a 2-0 Merthyr victory back in November, with the Magpies having Gerard Benfield to thank for some inspired saves to keep the score respectable.
The current league table at the bottom is:
16th Dorchester Town [played24] 30pts
17th Gosport Borough [played 25] 29pts
18th Basingstoke [played 22] 28pts
19th Wimborne Town [played 24] 27pts
20th Chesham [played 23] 26pts
21st Frome Town [played 25] 24pts
22nd Staines [played 25] 9pts
