Goals: C. Heaver-Webb, J. Bailey
On Sunday the 25th of February we welcomed Poole Town Ladies Reserves to the New Cuthbury, in our last home game for 23/24 season.
With the two previous encounters this season proving to be tough games, it was important Wimborne started well from the off. With Poole Town’s first team having completed their season, this meant their reserves were able to field an even stronger team for this meeting.
The game started with a spell of possession from Poole Town, not being able to find that last element to finish their chances.
Very early on into the fixture Poole Town’s centre back went down in an off the ball manner. Leading to the player having to be stretcherd off, looking to be a potentially serious injury. This stoppage almost allowed the game to re-start in a way, Wimborne Town now seeing more of the ball in possession. However, not being able to produce an end product to their attacks.
The second half started with both teams managing to match each other. It was going to take something special to get the first goal of the game. Poole having their chances with spells of the ball but, K.Smith catching the shots calmly.
It wasn’t until the 63rd minute of the match, when the first goal was scored. Going in Wimborne Town’s favour, C.Heaver-Webb goal, assisted by E.Watkins. 1-0 to Wimborne Town.
Poole Town didn’t give up and kept pushing to find an equaliser, strong battles in the midfield, looking to play the through ball into their forwards. Wimborne Town’s defence dealing with these situations excellently.
Wimborne Town seeing more of the ball, allowing for better build up, with the purpose to create attacks in the final third. With pressure from Wimborne on Poole Town’s goal, J.Bailey scored Wimborne’s second with a superb individual effort.
In the later stages of the game Wimborne were able to maintain their composure and see more of the ball looking to score a third. Poole Town’s keeper making some great saves and their defence working hard prevented it. A day with weather conditions far from ideal, Wimborne Town took all 3 points.
Wimborne Town wish all the best to Poole Town’s injured player, wishing them a speedy recovery.
