A superb second half saw Wimborne over come Mousehole and firmly place us back at the top of the table. Goals from Matty Burrows, Cam Munn and Billy Walker saw the Magpies to victory, taking three points back home on the near 400-mile round trip.

With Tim’s men making the long trip on Friday night, anticipation was rife for Wimborne’s first ever game away at Mousehole. With 50+ Wimborne fans making the trip, highlighting our amazing support, the lads ensured that they would be leaving Cornwall happy.

After a fast start it was Mousehole who had the first effort of note, firing just wide on a quick counter attack. Wimborne were quick to react though and on the 10th minute, Jackson rose highest to force Mousehole goalkeeper Chenoweth into a fine stop. This would prove to be a theme of the day with Burrows corners consistently on the money.

Soon after, the in-form Munn forced Chenoworth into another fine stop, before the dancing Harry Morgan fired a shot just wide. Wimborne had clearly identified gaps behind the Seagulls high defensive line, with regular long balls to try and get Jack Lovell & co. in behind.

However, as frustrations may have started to grow with fine saves and offside decisions, finally the deadlock was broken on the 42nd minute. Getting in down the left-hand side, Sam Griffin did brilliantly to keep his composure and square the ball across the box to find Matty Burrows to fire home after making a late run.

Mousehole were posing threats of their own though and equalised almost immediately, less than two minutes later. Kyle Fraser arriving at the back post to restore parity for the home side. If the first half was a good advert for non-league football, the second half would prove to be possibly our best of the season.

On the 51st minute Griffin found Lovell whose effort was pushed behind for a corner. The resulting corner was only half cleared to the man in form, Munn, to hit from the edge of the box – a big deflection wrong footing Chenoworth and restoring the Magpies lead.

Just five minutes later another Burrows corner caused havoc as it dropped in the six-yard box, with Billy Walker smashing home from close range.

As Mousehole pushed forward to try and pull a goal back, spaces were appearing at the back and a whole succession of chances fell to the visitors; Burrows, Lovell and Morgan all having efforts to add to the scoreline.

In the 79th minute the electric Burrows was brought down near the halfway line and an apparent stamp saw Morgan Lewis receive his marching orders and Mousehole were down to 10.

Despite coming close numerous times in the closing stages, including Harry Baker hitting the inside of the post from a near-impossible angle, the Magpies couldn’t add to their lead.

The final whistle was greeted with jubilation as Wimborne left with an excellent three points, becoming only the third visiting team to win at Trungle Parc this season.
