Wimborne Town scored two goals in three second-half minutes to secure a 3-2 comeback victory against Plymouth Parkway at the Wyatt Homes Stadium on Tuesday night.

The comeback was completed when Smith netted a sublime solo effort just moments after Fletcher had tucked away his penalty. Wimborne went into the half trailing 2-1 with Parkway goals either side of Williams curling effort.

Tim Sills made three changes to his side, including a first start for Alex Borges after his superb assist against Evesham United. Sam Roberts made his first start of the season and Joe Smith also came into the side. There was also a return to the bench for winger Max Bustamante, who was back from seeing family in Chile.

Despite a promising start from Wimborne, with Josh Carmichael having two shots within the first ten minutes, it was Parkway that took the lead just 12 minutes in. Following a free-kick delivery, the ball was headed down towards Scarff who found space to unleash an effort at goal from the edge of the box, his shot deflecting past Plain.

However, Wimborne were level only eight minutes later when Williams chased onto a perfectly weighted through-ball down the left-hand side before cutting in on his right foot and curling a shot from just inside the box into the bottom corner, it was a great finish.

The home side continued their pressure, with Carmichael being a particular threat as Wimborne pushed for the lead. However, in the 41st minute, Parkway were once again able to find the back of the net. Tylor Love-Holmes broke away into the box and got past Cam Plain before seeing his shot rebound off the post, the ball falling at the feet of James Watts-Barciela who made it 2-1.

Wimborne started the second half with a quick tempo, creating chances but unable to find a way through. Bustamante and Fletcher were brought on for Borges and McQuoid as manager Sills looked to unlock the Parkway defence.

Then came the moment that changed the course of the rest of the game. An 80th minute corner was floated in to Jackson, whose header hit the arm of Scarff; the referee pointed to the spot and sent the Parkway number five off for first dibs of the shower gel.

The penalty was dispatched by Fletcher who sent keeper Allen the wrong way, slotting into the bottom left. The comeback was completed just two minutes later after Smith picked up the ball and carried it into the edge of the box, firing an effort into the far corner from a tight angle – a goal worthy of winning any match.

The ten-men of Parkway threw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser and Plain made a couple of important saves in time added-on to preserve the lead.

The whistle blew at the end of the six additional minutes, lifting Wimborne to fifth after nine games, and preserving an unbeaten home run stretching back to February. For the Magpies it’s an important momentum builder after taking four points from two home games in four days ahead of their FA Cup Third Round Qualifying clash with National League South side Worthing on Saturday.
